Meet Alexandra
“Local government is the one closest to the people. It’s about how and where we grow. It’s our roads, our parks and playgrounds and how our property taxes are put to work on our behalf.
It governs speed limits, noise controls, and safety zones near schools. It oversees our fire service, our snowplowing and those who keep our communities safe. Local government impacts our lives each and every day.
We need to get it right”.
Alexandra Caldwell
My family and I have called Ward 1 home since 2007, first in Lakeshore Woods and now in Bronte. Like many other areas of Oakville, Ward One is facing the challenges of rapid growth, proposals for over-development, increased traffic congestion and the preservation of our neighbourhood character just to name a few.
Stretching from the Lake Ontario waterfront, north to Dundas Street, Ward 1 is a mosaic of interwoven communities where each has its own distinct character. The issues of Bronte Village differ from those in Palermo. Bronte Creek residents face different challenges than those around QE Park or Lakeshore Woods. My own personal experience of living in more than one area of Ward One has taught me firsthand that a solution that works for one neighbourhood doesn’t necessarily work for another.
For more than 20 years, I have worked in aviation, where no two days, and no two people, are exactly alike. The work has taught me to communicate clearly, remain calm under pressure and pay attention to what each person needs.
It has also taught me that service is not about having all the answers. It is about taking responsibility, treating people with dignity and following through.
That is the approach I would bring to Town Council.
